Gender
Gender oppression is associated with the gender norms of stratification of a society. This deals with the dichotomous, exclusive categories of femininity and masculinity. Femininity is defined in relation to emotionality, passivity, and nurturance as masculinity is defined by autonomy, aggression, and competitiveness. The gender oppression is associated with there being less power within the femininity category and with people who choose to deviate from either masculine or feminine categories. These songs explore elements of gender oppression, sexism, and experiences outside of the genderized categories.
