Internalized Oppression
When a stigmatized group uses the methods of the oppressing group to oneself. This may manifest itself in either members from the group directing messages of bias and discrimination towards themselves or to others in their group. For example, when a minority woman straightens her hair to look like everyone else. Some types of internalized oppressions include: internalized racism, internalized sexism, internalized homonegativity/binegativity, and internalized ableism.
