Living Years
By: Mike & the Mechanics
Album: Living Years
This song is about generational differences between a son and his father. The song was written from the perspective of a son who was in a conflicting relationship with his father. After his father passes, the son learns about many things they had in common, even though they are from different generations.
Selected Lyrics:
Every generation blames the one before,
And all of our frustrations come beating on your door,
I know that I'm a prisoner to all my father held so dear,
I know that I'm a hostage to all his hopes and fears,
I just wish I could have told him in the living years.
